I Introduction:
It is important for health and wellness professionals to develop psychologically, spiritually and physically in order to aid their patients in the right direction for integral flourishing.
For me the areas that I need to work on are stress management and a daily exercise routine. I have been working on meditation to help relieve some of my stress, and that has been working wonderfully but as far as a regular exercise routine, I have not come up with something that I can stick with. I really do love yoga and it is a total body workout, as far as body, mind, and spirit. My goals are to incorporate a daily routine of exercise and meditation, to do this I will need to be disciplined and make time for myself on a daily basis.
II Assessment:
On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the absolute best, I would rate my spiritual wellness as a 7. I do pray, meditate, I use positive affirmations, also selflessness.
Physically I would rate myself as a 5.5, I like to think of myself as an active person, I am always doing something. I have two young children and we are always playing, I do not have a regular exercise routine but I as I said I do move a lot throughout the day.
Psychologically I would rate myself a 4 due to the mild depression that I have and the lack of stress management. I do use meditation, but I think that journaling would be beneficial for me.
III Goal development:
My goal that I have for my physical self is to do more regular exercising, such as having 3 days of a cardio workout per week, 2 days of yoga practice and 2 days of strength training. I really want to be more physically fit and I believe that this routine will help me achieve my goal.
A goal that I have for my psychological self is to become more positive when it comes to talking with my husband and not roll my eyes at most everything he says and the way he disciplines (of course I do not do this in front of him or our children). I would like to be more on the same page with him, or what I would really like is he on my page.
A goal that I have for my spiritual self is to be outside more with nature. I believe that this would be a great benefit for physical and psychological well being as well.
IV Practices for personal health:
A practice that I can implement in my life that will foster physical growth will be exercising with a friend, if I can have a friend that is help support me with my exercising goals and I can do the same for her that would be beneficial for both of us. I would also like to get my children involved in a daily exercise routine that would make it more of family time. This will help to fill our need of spending time together doing something constructive and also show them that exercise is an important part to staying healthy that hopefully they will take with them the rest of their life’s.
Psychological practices that I can incorporate into my life to foster growth would be to do a lot more free reading, reading for fun. I can do this by going to the library and checking out books that I am interested in rather then just books for my children. I would also like to do a yoga practice at least 2 times a week, which will help with my psychological growth.
For my spiritual growth I will incorporate forgiveness and the right attitude towards my husband, this will hopefully make it a little easier to deal with irritable and depressive behaviors.
V Commitment:
In order to asses my progress I will keep a journal, this will help me keep track of what has worked and what is not working and what I may need to adjust to better fit my needs. I can also set realistic goals, short-term goals and long-term goals, which will help to keep me on track with what I want to accomplish.
